A brief taste of the wild

THE ESSENTIALS OF SOUTHERN AFRICA

- A PRESTIGE TRIP LASTING SEVEN NIGHTS -

Are you drawn to the original, wild and expansive natural world found in the last African Gardens of Eden? Do you dream of touching the very tip of the continent, getting to the bottom of the mysteries of the sources of humanity, and becoming one with the throbbing waterfalls whose names have become mythical? But are you worried that your dream is simply not possible as you only have a few days to spend in southern Africa?

There's no need to panic. The Charly team has thought of everything to make your dreams a reality.

Three countries, three regions, and three experiences characterise this slightly crazy escape through the most exclusive that Africa has to offer.

Act I: SOUTH AFRICA - eclectic effervescence and divine nectars

It's at the tip of the African continent (or perhaps even the world) that everything will begin when you wake in the arms of what is known as the Mother City of South Africa. On one side, the sea provides the rest your soul and mind need. On the other, the iconic silhouette of Table Mountain will bring out your adventurous or meditative side. You will get lost in the leafy sanctuary of Kirstenbosch Gardens, tease the penguins on Boulders Beach and travel along one of the most spectacular coastal roads in the world. Your enchantment will reach its peak when the helicopter takes you up into the air above the chic African Riviera. And that's not the last of the multi-sensory pleasures that await. Under an hour from the bright lights of Cape Town, the exquisite pleasures of the best wines and the mild Winelands are just waiting to intoxicate you deliciously. Your southern journey is just beginning.

On the programme: Three nights in Cape Town and the wine region

- From Table Mountain, a private helicopter flight over three bays (Big Bay, Long Beach and False Bay).

- A journey of discovery in the Cape of Good Hope (botanical gardens, Boulders Beach, Cape Point and the panoramic roads of the coast).

- An exploration of the valleys and mountains that have become synonyms for some of the best wines in the world and tastings from small producers that are not open to the public with a local specialised guide.

2 nights at Gape Grace in CAPE TOWN

Located at the heart of the famous Waterfront, its marine ambiance is unique and the views of the boats undergoing repairs and of Table Mountain are as lovely as one other. The result? A first-class stop packed full of authenticity.

1 night at the Delaire Graff Relais & Château in STELLENBOSCH

It is undoubtedly the most prestigious establishment in the vineyard region. The views of the mountains and the vines from the suites are spectacular.

Act II: BOTSWANA - the ultimate safari experience

In a wing beat you land in the heart of the Africa of wild paradises and ecosystems. Suddenly brought face to face with the immense Okavango Delta, you will be struck dumb at the joining of the bush and waters. The days will flow peacefully from watching the wildlife to navigating around the islands and swamps boarded with reeds and papyrus. In front of you will unfold an open-air play in which lions, buffaloes, elephants, gazelles, wildebeests, giraffes and crocodiles have starring roles. Then it’s time to succumb to the African romance. Your lodge, sheltered by the ebony woods, offers you an oasis of comfort and the charm of the last century. From antiques to chests, carved wood and terraces on stilts made of teak, everything has been designed to evoke the sensations of the first explorers. And that includes exclusive and limited access to this area of singular beauty that is home to one of the very last intact nature sanctuaries.

On the programme: 2 nights in the heart of Okavango

- 2 safaris per day (morning and evening) with an English-speaking ranger who specialises in open-top 4x4s or on board a mokoro canoe on the Delta.

Duba Plains Camp

Just five tents located on an island at the heart of the Okavango Delta in a private reserve stretching 33,000 hectares provide an intimate safari experience against the backdrop of a décor inspired by pioneering explorers. A member of Relais & Chateaux and Unique Lodges of the World.

Act III: ZIMBABWE - nature’s vertigo

The banks of the tumultuous River Zambezi, marking the borders of Zimbabwe and Zambia, signal the last stage in your journey in southern Africa. It is in these lands with their primal beauty that the sun shines on one of the continent's most beautiful rivers. The roar of the water that crashes down in great deafening leaps leaves its audible mark on one of the most astounding natural spectacles in the world. In this place where rainbows and water vapour suspended in the air abound, the great waters of Africa are married with a tropical and exuberant environment. There are no words to describe the sensation you will feel when you see Mosi-oa-Tunya, “The Smoke Which Thunders” (the local name for Victoria Falls), from your helicopter. But the animal theatre located upstream of the waterfalls already has you in its grasp. Watching the ballet of the birds, the show of the large mammals and the magical extravaganza of the sunsets from the private terrace of your lodge will pull you into a timeless dream that the explorer David Livingstone would have been unable to tear himself away from.

On the programme: 2 nights at Victoria Falls in the Zambezi national park

- Visit to the falls,

- Dawn or sunset cruise on the Zambezi river,

- Afternoon tea,

- Bird watching,- The choice between two morning or afternoon safaris in the Zambezi national park.

Victoria Falls River Lodge

The only lodge within the Zambezi National Park and located on the north bank of the river, it provides the perfect combination of safaris, visits to Victoria Falls, comfort and a change of scene. I

f the explorer David Livingstone were around today, there is no doubt that he would choose to stay here.
